Computers

Thu Oct 22, 2009, 10:11 AM
Oh they can be so evil!

I got my HP Pavilion dv6000 laptop April of 2008, and I was so excited for it too, finally my own computer. However I let my cousins borrow it in the winter and it started showing signs of...issues. Like the power cord dying, at first I worried it was because of over heating, but nope, right before Christmas my cousin's puppy chewed into the cord, thus the reason it faltered. No big, got a new one. Then the thing did over heat, and that wasn't fun. I tried to take better care of it, not lending it out. The replacement power cord sometimes didn't want to read, so I used the old one for a bit, pressing together were the wires had been chewed through. Eventually though I broke down and shelled out the $87 for a new one from HP. The laptop did over heat last April, right after midterms and did a force shut down, of which I hear that particular laptop is infamous for. It fried the graphics card and greatly hindered my digital art, because none of the colors were right anymore, and the fan started acting up, so annoying. I swear it talked/talks to me. However I made it through the summer months without too much issue from it. The issue was I was taking online classes in the fall, so I needed a new one, I had a bunch of money left over after my fin. aid disbursed, so that was the plan, to spend it on that. However the money still isn't here, and it was suppose to be on Sept. 28th (seriously what is with accounts receivable? Do they just hold on to it to torment students?)

However my laptop, in our wonderful love hate relationship, kept working and I started doing more digital projects, adapting around it along with my school work. And this semester has been going great, getting solid grades. Then the power cord stops reading when plugged into certain outlets. It started like on Monday, at first I thought it was just the outlets, the power had gone out a few days before, but nope. The power cord over a progress of four days got more and more picky, reading less and then finally not at all. It died.

And its the week of midterms/before midterms. I have my art history test on Saturday and next week is my Film one, along with having to do photoshop projects, which of course, is only loaded on my laptop.

So my stress level jumped up a bit and I cursed my computer. I should be getting the check in the mail today and the first thing I'm doing it going to the bank and then ordering the Macbook Pro I've had my eye on tonight. If all goes well it should get here Sunday/Monday. Can't be soon enough though, not to my mind. Apparently the power cords/adapter's acting like this is really common with that computer, which is beyond frustrating. I thought I was a PC girl but I've done my research now and am honestly eager to get my Mac, I also talked to a friend to find out all the proper ways to care and baby my new purchase, having been informed its a good idea to name it. Apparently computers like it when you do that, I'm pondering on it but I think I'll go with either Kotori, my first rp character ever, or Karina, my longest, most developed writing one. Funny how they both have K names.

Outside of computer issues though life is good, school is going much better this semester and I'm having a blast, challenging yes, but so worth it. Its a big confidence builder to see my art steadily get better as each week passes, as in my paintings. I'm going to take more art related classes next semester, Printmaking, Figure Modeling and Anatomy. I want to squeeze in Italian too.

On my own art front, I'm pretty happy with some of my projects, though a lot of them aren't up on here yet simply because they aren't done. I have this huge file, my first true attempt at doing background and more then one figure. Its a picture capturing my OC Althia as a child, at six, with her mentor/mother figure Niande (an OC of my friend). Its going to be quiet a cute picture, and it has so many layers! I've never worked on such a massive scale before, Althia and Niande each having layers for their hair, skin, clothing, and one for their 'glows', three layers for the background so yeah...fun. I've been really inspired lately and sketching a lot more in my sketch book, mostly just from looking at Saimain's work, found here [[link] The character progression charts on her site made me feel a ton better! I have improved a lot from where I started and if I keep going it will only get better, so yay for that and I want to work on more pieces like Rivan's, fully paintings done in a semi realistic style. Still trying to find my style, but I'll figure that out as I stumble along.

Turn your face to the moonlight...
Let your memory lead you.
If you find there - the meaning of what
